I went to Target to get a gift card for my friend Valerie, who’s celebrating her twenty-eighth birthday tonight. I paid for the gift card with my credit card, and along with my credit card receipt, the clerk also handed me a gift receipt.
You know, in case she decides to return the gift card and get something else instead.
Apparently, if a Target gift card that has been ordered online is lost, stolen or damaged-TARGET WILL NOT REPLACE THE REMAINING VALUE.
However, if it was PURCHASED AT A TARGET STORE, they WILL honor it with the original purchase receipt.
Customer Service claims that even with all the paperwork, transaction receipts, order summaries, order confirmations, credit card bills that related to your online purchase – none of this holds up without an original purchase receipt that you would have received at the brick and mortar store!
Do yourself a favor and purchase gift cards ONLY from one of their stores!
I’m sure Target goes through great lengths to encourage their customers to purchase their merchandise online. However, their online policies DRASTICALLY DIFFER from their in-store policies!
After this experience, I am VERY LEARY of ordering ANYTHING from Target online. Their double standards are horrific and CS leaves you standing there dumbfounded saying What! You’ve got to be kidding?
