Ash and I were both eligible for phone upgrades as of December 24, so we went out that morning and used our “New Every Two” credit to get two free (after rebate) Droid Eris phones.
The phones take a little getting used to since we’ve never had smart phones before. For instance, it automatically downloaded all my gmail contacts into my phone book, and I had to figure out how to stop that from happening. So there’s a learning curve. But it’s nice to finally have a device that I think is every bit as useful as the iPhone, yet on the Verizon Wireless network so it can make phone calls inside Friday’s at the Block, or at Rainforest Cafe, or at any other place where we’ve seen the iPhone fail at being a phone.
I’m not actually Dad but this is the computer he’s given me to work on. Is that actually your phone or just some random phone you had a picture of?
It’s a stock photo of the phone from the manufacturer. Our phones look like that except they show the weather for Orange instead of New York.
Do you have to pay a high monthly charge like for the I phone to use this and its features?
Indeed, it is far from free because there’s an extra monthly charge when you use any smartphone or Blackberry. Right now we’re paying an extra $14 per month per line, but we might downgrade our calling plan, so the difference could be as little as $4 per line. However, for that extra $4-14 per month, we’re gaining the ability to use free non-Verizon services in lieu of their expensive offerings (ie, the free Google Maps instead of the $10/month VZ Navigator, and voice search instead of the $2-per-call 411 directory assistance).
Enough with the technology! Give me something interesting!
